W.W. Powell Library

The school library is an active learning centre which plays an integral part in the total school programme. In partnership with the Administration and the classroom teachers, the library staff work to foster the development of the student's information literacy skills as well as a love of reading. We endeavour to encourage students to realize their potential, and become life-long learners.

The Summoning (Darkest Powers Series #1)

The Book of Michael

BORROWING POLICY

  • Student identification cards must be presented in order to borrow library material.
  • Books are available for a 3-week loan period and may be renewed, provided no one else has reserved the book.
  • Reference books may be borrowed on an overnight basis, after 12:45 pm each day, to be returned before 8:00 am the next school day.
  • Special loan periods may apply to books that are needed for class projects.
  • Students are responsible for returning all library materials by the due date. A fine of 25¢ per day per book will be charged on overdue material.
  • Students will be charged for lost or damaged material.
  • Current magazines are available for library use only. Back issues may be borrowed.

Global Issues in Context offers global perspectives on issues of international importance and current world events and topics in the news related to these issues.
History Resource Center: World integrates Gale secondary sources, primary sources and full-text articles from academic journals and periodicals from around the world. Also includes scholarly analysis, "day-in-history" reviews and sources encouraging additional study.
LitFinder for Schools.This database delivers more than 134,500 full-text poems, stories, essays, plays and speeches along with thousands of biographies,explanations, and overviews.

Teen Health & Wellness Database from Rosen Publishing

Developed for teens, this award-winning database provides curricular support and self-help on topics including diseases, drugs & alcohol, nutrition, mental health, family life, sexuality and more. All content is reviewed by leading professionals.

Eureka.cc from Cedrom SNi

A collection of francophone national and international newspapers, news wires, audio capsules and radio/television transcripts. The resources are updated daily and contain 20 years of archives. The French-language titles are bundled with 20 English-language daily newspapers from across Ontario.

Digital Edition Newspapers

Access to the online "digital" editions for the Ottawa Citizen, the National Post, and nine other newspapers from across the country. NB: ACCESS FROM HOME IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

E-STAT

Statistics Canada's interactive learning tool offers reliable and timely statistics about Canada. With E-STAT you can generate tables, graphs and maps.

Canadian Encyclopedia
Available in French and English to everyone – no password required.

Grolier On-Line
This resource includes 7 encyclopedia databases, including Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, La Nueve Enciclopedia Cumbre, Lands and Peoples, and The New Book of Popular Science. Also provides links to international newspapers.

Encyclopaedia Universalis
A scholarly French language encyclopedia.
